Against The Railing: Immigration Interviews

Tara Mullins first choreographed Against the Railing in 2007. At the time, it was about her grandmother’s journey from Sicily to New York in the early 1900s. Her grandmother left behind her parents and worked on the factory lines to make a better life for her children. With the current conversations about immigration, Mullins decided to expand the piece to include more sections, as well as filmed immigration stories from NC State faculty, staff and students. The inspiration for these videos came from Minnesota’s Immigrant Stories. More interviews will be added to the site throughout the year. A big thank you to Ross Joyner and Ethan Myers in DASA Marketing and Communications for filming and editing these interviews. Please contact the Dance Program if you are interested in being a part of this project.
