Who can audition?

All NC State students, regardless of academic major or prior dance experience, are welcome to audition.

What can I expect?

If you’re auditioning for the State Dance Company, you will be taught, and asked to perform, a phrase from our repertory. You will also be given a short composition problem. If you’re auditioning for the Panoramic Dance Project, you will learn and perform two short phrases from the company repertory. You will also have a chance to make up your own short dance phrase based on a theme given to you at the audition.

What should I wear?

No special attire is necessary—just wear comfortable dance clothes. You’ll audition in bare feet.

What should I do to prepare?

You don’t need to prepare anything—just show up ready to dance. Registration isn’t required, but we would love to know ahead of time if you’re interested in auditioning. Contact us at or 919.515.7034.
