NCSU Dance Company

Learn, perform and grow with a nationally recognized modern dance company. As a member of the NCSU Dance Company, one of the two academic dance companies of NC State University, you’ll perform the choreography of the artistic director and annual guest artists.

Founded in 1987, the company has received frequent recognition from the American College Dance Association, including:

  • Multiple invitations to perform in national galas at the esteemed John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
  • Multiple performances in regional ACDA galas.
  • Awards for Best Student Choreographer in both the region and nation.

When do you rehearse?

Rehearsals are Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, Tuesday evenings, and every other Saturday morning.

When do you perform?

The company performs in the Fall Concert at NC State, presents an annual spring concert at NC State, and attends and performs at the American College Dance Association Conferences. We also perform at many other venues throughout the year.  Plan on attending the next NCSU Dance Company performance.

How many academic credits do members receive?

Students receive two credit hours per semester for participation.

Meet the NCSU Dance Company Members

Annalise Boese is a junior majoring in English literature with a minor in French. She is thrilled to be spending her third year in the NCSU Dance Company. She began her dance training at the age of three and studied primarily ballet, tap and jazz. In spring 2017, she took a dance composition class to further understand the choreographic and artistic process of modern dance.

Gini Brown is a junior double majoring in biochemistry and plant biology from Fort Mill, SC. She began dancing at the age of three and is primarily trained in ballet, jazz and tap. This is her third year with the NCSU Dance Company. Gini is the 2016-17 Arts NC State Creative and Performing Artist Award recipient.

Isa Cortes is a junior at NC State majoring in psychology with a minor in biology. It is her third year as a member of the NCSU dance company. Her background experience includes being a competitive dancer at Lake Norman Dance Gallery for 15 years and performing at numerous places including Madison Square Garden for America’s Got Talent and several dance competitions around the nation.

Danielle Deibert is a junior majoring in mathematics with minors in Spanish and philosophy. In her hometown in New Jersey, she began dancing at the age four, primarily training in contemporary, ballet and jazz.  Coming from a competitive dance background, she has enjoyed exploring new movement through modern dance. This is her third year in the NCSU Dance Company.

Danielle Dorsch is a freshman majoring in psychology. Danielle has a background primarily in ballet. She received training from the Kirov Academy of Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet (NYC), Gelsey Kirland Academy of Ballet and was a trainee at the Joffrey Ballet (Chicago). She is an ArchCore 40 alumni, having studied under Jennifer Archibald. From 2015–17 Danielle danced for the San Diego Ballet under the direction of Javier Valesco. This is her first year in the NCSU Dance Company.

Ava Enochs is a freshman majoring in design studies from Greensboro, North Carolina. She began her dance training at Greensboro Ballet at the age of three where she primarily studied classical ballet. As her training progressed, she was later introduced to other styles of dance such as modern and jazz. She then went on to become a student at Weaver Academy for the Performing and Visual Arts at the age of fourteen where she began to experiment with choreography and delve deeper into modern dance, while also continuing her training in ballet. This is her first year in the NCSU Dance Company.

Jenna Finkelstein is a freshman from Raleigh, NC with an intended major in biochemistry. She began dancing at age of four and trained primarily in ballet and modern dance at City Ballet in Raleigh. She is excited to continue dancing at NC State. This is her first year with the company.

Casey Graff, an animal science major, has been dancing since the age of four. She attended the South Dayton Dance Theater and was a company member for eight years.  She is trained in ballet, modern, jazz and tap and has demonstrated as well as taught classes at her dance school.  She has been to the regional dance festival four years in a row and the National RDA festival in Phoenix Arizona in 2016.

 

Madison Johnson is a sophomore majoring in political science from New Bern, NC. She began dancing at two years old and trained competitively in several different styles, mainly contemporary and jazz. She studied modern dance at the Governor’s School of North Carolina in 2014 and is excited to continue learning and dancing. This is her second year with the NCSU Dance Company.

MaryJo McCoy is a junior majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing. She has been dancing her whole life and is primarily trained in modern, ballet and jazz. She began her dance training in Silver Spring, Maryland and has spent her more recent years in Chapel Hill, NC. This is her second year with the NCSU Dance Company.

Dedree Scott is a junior majoring in animal science. She started dancing at a young age in her hometown Fayetteville, NC. She has been trained in many styles, but enjoys Hip-hop and Modern most. She is looking forward to being a part of NCSU Dance Company for her third consecutive year.

Lillian Tseng is a sophomore majoring in chemical engineering. She primarily trained in ballet with Salt Creek Ballet in Chicago, IL before moving to Charlotte, NC her sophomore year of high school where she joined the Charlotte School of Ballet and the Ardrey Kell High School Dance Team. She enjoys modern dance and hip-hop and this is her second year with the NCSU Dance Company.
